Blackburn show a reported interest in Eidur Gudjohnsen

A leading tabloid today carries a report suggesting that Mark Hughes approached Steve Clarke, after the fixture between the two sides on Tuesday evening, to discuss the possibility of signing Eidur Gudjohnsen.

Just recently the Icelandic international has been conspicuous by his absence from several Chelsea squads; however, it should be pointed out that Eidur has been suffering from an illness recently.

Blackburn obviously feel that, with the impending reported arrival of Michael Ballack, Chelsea could possibly be tempted to sell the player recently christened the White Maradona by Mourinho.

The article goes onto suggest that Eidur might well be tempted by a move to Lancashire considering that he enjoyed a happy period playing for near-neighbours, Bolton Wanderers.

Continuing along a theme, the tabloid then goes on to suggest that Blackburn are more than willing to match the salary the gifted Icelandic international is on at Chelsea.

Quite whether Eidur would want to contemplate such a move is open to debate. He may feel that his opportunities at Chelsea are becoming limited and that one last move could rejuvenate his career.

He could also be tempted by Sparky?s ambitious plans for the Lancashire club that included him signing a new three-year contract extension.

Unfortunately, reading between the lines, it would appear that a few liberties have possibly been taken here.

Hidden in the text is perhaps the telling line whereby the author goes on to mention that Blackburn would be interested in purchasing any players Mourinho finds surplus to requirements this summer.

Seems like someone is trying to fill a few column inches they have left over to me!
