On Sunday, against Manchester City, Eden Hazard cut a very isolated figure.

Asked to play as a false number nine again, the Belgian international looked a forlorn character as the game passed him by.

With Chelsea intent on stifling Manchester City and content to pass the ball, on many an occasion, in a backwards direction, Hazard looked exasperated when any balls played forward either sailed over his head or were so wayward he was never going to be able to engineer an opportunity to make an impact on the game.

Indeed, when Antonio Conte decided, with time running out, to shuffle his pack, it was, once again, Eden Hazard that made the long walk.

But, on leaving the pitch, there was no smile from Hazard, just a steely glare towards Conte with Hazard, seemingly, miffed at having played a part in a game-plan that was alien to his beliefs.

Today, the inference is given that what occurred at the Etihad Stadium, on Sunday, could have ramifications.

With Chelsea looking to extend Hazard`s deal, the good folk of the Daily Mail are reporting that Hazard is stalling over signing a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

Our referenced source is championing the suggestion that Hazard won`t put pen-to-paper on a new deal if there is the slightest chance that Real Madrid will make a move for him.

Could Sunday have been, as they say, the straw that broke the camels` back?

It remains to be seen but I fear, despite professing his love for Chelsea, this will be his last season in our famous blue shirt!

  • As a life long City fan I have to say I admire Hazard as a player. Mancini, always a good judge tried to buy him for us. He will stall until he finds out who the next manager is, but more than likely he will be off to Spain. No club can afford to lose star players, but his time with you could be over.

  • let us not forget that the Belgian midget has over two years to go on his contract and goes only if we allow him to go 🙂

  • Madrid have to move for him first, the desire seems more on him than them, lets not forget he has not impressed in the last two big games, even out of position . Willian has outshone him in the Barca and United games .

  • Hazard?s retreating figure at Man City was filled with sorrow.
He used to say ?We won together, we suffer together.? But is it still true? Is this the team suffering together? Is this the club worth suffering together?
It seems at this moment Conte and Hazard are suffering quite differently.
I want him to realize that the supporters are always suffering with you and behind you.
The club should make every effort to keep him, someone like Lampard and Terry make a joint appeal to Hazard to stay at the Legend Game. Still Hazard wants to go even after this kind of public gesture, there would be no way.

  • The city match was the worst Chelsea display all season and conte must accept responsibility for that. He stifled the abundance of talents at his disposal with his nagetive tactics.
