Just One Question

Why is it that players don’t always want to stay and fight for their position at Chelsea like they do at other clubs?

There is no doubt that we had a very good squad last year. However, I believe we need to build up on the strength rather than depleting it.

Every time we try to do this, the media starts talking about a player leaving.

A good example is that of Nemanja Matic.

Why should he leave the club because Tiemoue Bakayoko is coming in?

Are we doomed to only one key player for a position? After all, no one mentions Marouane Fellaini leaving Manchester United because Nemanja Matic is coming.

Neither has any one mentioned Marcus Rashford leaving because Manchester United got Romelu Lukaku.

I expect Nemanja Matic to stay around and fight for his position first, even if he is going to end up leaving. If you ask me, I want to believe this problem is with Chelsea. We have this culture of fielding the same players all the time and don’t want to give enough playing time to other players.

In fact, we always take pride in having the only player(s) that played for every EPL minute of the season.

What happens to the other player?

No one wants to be a cheerleader in a jersey.

That was how we lost players like Kevin De Bruyne, Mo Salah, Juan Cuadrado, Juan Mata and even Romelu Lukaku. We just didn’t give them enough chance to prove themselves.

Ironically, the same Mourinho who denigrated all these players has now found out that two of them are very fit for his new team to the extent of hijacking the Romelu Lukaku deal. I learned he was the one who discouraged putting a buy-back clause in Romelu Lukaku’s sale contract. Wonderful!

As a big team, we should not be a replacement team. We should be an add-on team.

My advice is to keep Nemanja Matic and let him fight for his position. Also, we need to find playing time for all our players, not just XI people. This will help us identify talents rather than selling them and later get humiliated trying to get them back.

Just my own humble opinion.
