After recently becoming Chelsea?s highest paid player, Michael Ballack is about to be overtaken in the salary stakes.

Frank Lampard, according to various sources, is about to be offered a new deal at Chelsea. A deal that will se him tied to the club for the foreseeable future whilst also making him the top earner, amongst the playing staff, at Chelsea. The figure currently being mentioned is a huge £140,000 a week.

Indeed, Frank?s agent, Steve Kutner, in a leading tabloid, confirmed that talks have been held with Peter Kenyon regarding sitting down to discuss this delicate matter.

With Barcelona still talking up their chances of signing Lampard, Peter Kenyon is keen to ensure that a situation does not develop whereby Frank is manoeuvred into a position whereby a FIFIA regulation can be invoked that allows him to leave for a cut price fee in the region of £4million.

Apparently, in accordance with FIFA regulations, once a player hits the ripe age of twenty-eight he is able to buy out the remainder of his contract for a third of its remaining value. With Lampard reaching that milestone next month, the situation could arise whereby Chelsea are caught out.

Whilst the wages mentioned may seem astronomical for us working class, it does highlight the money involved in keeping the club at the lofty level it has now reached.

Hopefully, this situation can be eradicated before it reaches the crucial stage and Chelsea supporters can look forward to seeing Frank in a Chelsea shirt for a few seasons to come.
