Last Night Was A First For Frank Lampard’s Chelsea

|

It has been a long time coming!

The 0-0 draw Chelsea played out against Sevilla, in the Champions League, last night, was a significant result.

It was the first time a Chelsea side managed by Frank Lampard has seen a game end 0-0.

Following the plethora of goals that have ended up in our net, since Lampard took over, although Chelsea supporters would have preferred their side to win, a 0-0 draw is something of a relief.

On Saturday, against Southampton, the defence looked all at sea as, once again, we concede three goals.

But last night, the defence looked far more solid and if Mendy, James, Silva, Zouma and Chilwell can stay fit, the necessity to score three or four goals to win a game might be diminished.

The clean sheet was certainly welcomed by Lampard with the boss remarking, as reported by The BBC in his post-match interview

“The clean sheet was a big deal for us.

“Seville are a top team in European football. The concentration and focus to get the result was big from the team.”

The clean sheet was also welcomed by our new left-back, Ben Chilwell, who, as also reported by The BBC, had this to say:

“The important thing is the clean sheet. We knew people would be looking at us after conceding three goals at the weekend. We were solid defensively against a good team and didn’t give them many chances so we’ll take a draw and a clean sheet.”

Next up for Chelsea is a Premier League fixture away to Manchester United, is it too much to hope for another clean sheet?

Well, I am keeping my fingers crossed, how about you?

Manchester United v Chelsea?

Manchester United to Win!

Chelsea to Win!

A Draw!
