After going out on-loan for the whole of the 2017 / 2018 season, to Crystal Palace, Ruben Loftus-Cheek enjoyed a spectacular start to the season.

A flurry of appearances produced enough good performances for the 21-year-old to earn a call-up to the England squad.

A subsequent full debut, against Germany, for Gareth Southgate`s side saw Loftus-Cheek awarded the man-of-the-match accolade and, suddenly, the Chelsea youngster was being tipped for a place in the England squad for the 2018 World Cup, in Russia.

Unfortunately, in recent weeks, it has all gone a bit pear-shaped for Ruben, the talented youngster picked up an ankle injury that was, at first, deemed minor.

However, it now appears that the injury is worse than first thought and the player may need to go under the surgeon`s knife.

Commenting about the situation, the Crystal Palace manager, Roy Hodgson, has remarked to the media,

‘The injury is more severe than we originally thought, or perhaps hoped, it would be.”

With it not being known when Loftus-Cheek will return to action, his chances of snatching one of the midfield slots in the England World Cup squad are getting slimmer.
