Matic, More Petrescu than Poyet?

Gustavo Poyet had no qualms against doing it, whilst Dan Petrescu steadfastly refused to do it!

What is the old fool on about you are probably wondering!

Well it`s all about the intense rivalry that exists between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, a rivalry that is engrained in us all and a rivalry that was exemplified when Eden Hazard scored a great-goal, at Stamford Bridge, to deny Tottenham the chance to win the Premier League title thereby handing the title to unfancied Leicester City.

Now you tell me you didn`t cheer just that little bit louder because of the above.

But, getting back to the opening gambit of this article, some would say that in making the move across London, Poyet tarnished his reputation, whilst in refusing to do so Petrescu enhanced his.

The rivalry is something the players pick up on, they know the score, which makes it pleasing to read, in the news vehicle, the Evening Standard, that Nemanja Matic, although having made the move to Old Trafford, still retains a bit of blue in those Serbian veins.

Matic, when asked about the Champions League qualification places, with his former club having slipped out of the top four, remained far from diplomatic when asked whether he hoped Chelsea would finish above Spurs, remarking,

‘I wish Chelsea all the best. I can only say that.”

I`d hazard a guess that if given the chance, Matic would be more likely to do a Petrescu than a Poyet, don`t you think!
