South Africa 2010 – What`s the Point?

It seemed a month ago that this World Cup would be, perhaps, the best one ever witnessed with an array of world class talent taking centre stage to wow us, but NO!

First it was the team selections by most coaches that left us stunned, with stars like Pato, Benzema, Cassano and Ronaldinho not selected.

For Chelsea fans, it was bad enough not having Bosingwa, Cech or Yuri in the competition but Brazil added Alex to that list.

Still things were looking good no?

The return of Essien and a host of others ….. but NO!

Essien suffered a further injury that ruled him out of the World Cup and all Chelsea fans were just as dismayed by his loss as Ghana were, in fact the World was disappointed.

Okay there were still many teams worth rooting for – Germany perhaps! Umm… NO!

Enter Wembley and the FA Cup Final, the night of the double etc etc. A certain Mr Boateng ruined it for us all and ended the International career of a World Cup legend. Ballack suffered a bad ankle injury and won`t play any part in RSA, could things get any worse?

Yes they could!

Mr Didier Drogba who was in flying form all season and continued to be so in the friendly fixtures scoring 2 in 2 in some 80 minutes worth of action, subbed after 50 minutes in the 1st one and broke his arm, in the second, thanks to Tanaka the scorer of the opener and the equaliser against England.

CIV’s hopes were in ruins and I had just lost the team I was backing in this World Cup. Tears flew through my eyes last night at the thought of not having these guys in there in Africa but fate had not yet finished playing its cruel hands on the men from London.

This morning Mikel got himself injured and is also out of the World Cup.

So who’s left?

Joe and Ashley Cole, Terry and Lamps from England Ferreira and Carvalho from Portugal, Anelka and Malouda at France and Kalou and Brana from CIV and Serbia respectively, so from a solely Chelsea fan perspective my question to you is, what`s left to see?

Quite frankly I wouldn`t be surprised if in the next 6 days 6 more names are crossed from the above list. God may have something grander planned for us next year but at the moment things look bleak. Somebody console me please!
