All week long the tabloid press seem to have had their claws out for John Terry.

Whilst earlier in the week they seemed intent on dishing the dirt, this morning those claws don`t feel as sharp with the tabloid press instead concentrating on a possible contract extension at Stamford Bridge.

The tabloid press are inferring that with the return of Jose Mourinho allied with the fact that Jose has spoken about the old guard being beneficial to his second coming, the red-top brigade are reporting that Terry is eyeing up the possibility of a new deal that would see him remain at Stamford Bridge until 2016.

However, this in itself could represent a conflict between Terry and those who deal with such issues with it being club policy that the club only gives those who have passed the age of 30, one year deals, as witnessed firs-hand by Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard.

Therefore, it remains to be seen if those at Stamford Bridge make an exception to the rule for the player who has given so much to the club or whether the rule will be enforced strictly.

Our view is that Terry will have to accept a one year deal with their being several that fear his waning powers don`t, even if the club were to make an exception to the rule, deserve a three year deal.
