The Open Market Nature of the Premier League

An open market is always noisy.

But like other markets, all participants have a common goal of making profits.

To this extent, it is wise to totally neglect the surrounding noise and pay undivided attention only to the costumer(s) one is bargaining with, else one would lose advantage and end up short.

EPL is like an open market especially towards the end of the season.

Different elements of distraction (true and untrue) are introduced into the system mainly targeting the leading team(s). And Chelsea is getting its own share.

Among these are:

1 – Dissemination of transfer rumours (e.g. Hazard/Costa/Conte all leaving Chelsea)

2 – Hard tackles to disable key players (e.g. Manchester United was not that innocent)

3 – Erroneous calls by referees (uncalled penalty might have cost us today’s game).

We all spent the last two weeks grappling with item 1 above which is a market noise and almost forgot to focus on the major assignment (costumer), winning the EPL.

We all need to re-focus our resolve to win the Championship this year. It will also enhance our transfer chance.

I have a couple of suggestions:

1 – Conte and the players should ignore all comments about transfer for now, leave those to Abramovich and Emanalo and concentrate on the games down the stretch which are bound to be very, very difficult regardless of opponents

2 – Every team will want to be the one that denied us the Championship. We need to analyse each team and despatch the appropriate player. Zaha and Benteke ate our defence for lunch today using speed and raw strength. Zouma could have done better including winning more aerial duels.

Look out for the same strategy by Manchester City on Wednesday. We need strong and fast people in the back.

All said, I wish to show my appreciation to the entire Chelsea Club for making us all proud and happy this year. I pray that we cap the year with the EPL trophy. There is work to be done and it does not come harder.

Go blues!!!
