Chelsea have today announced the appointment of Andre Villas-Boas to the vacant managerial position, reuniting the Portuguese manager with the club he previously worked for during Jose Mourinho’s tenure.

Speculation has been rife since the departure of Carlo Ancelotti, with two names consistently at the top of the rumour mill.

Guus Hiddink was long thought to have been in prime position to make a Stamford Bridge return, but a series of rapid developments over the past few days have seen Villas-Boas depart from Porto and make his way to London.

The club have signed Villas-Boas to a three year contract, and he will start working immediately.

‘Andre was the outstanding candidate for the job. He is one of the most talented young managers in football today and has already achieved much in a relatively short space of time. His ambition, drive and determination matches that of Chelsea and we are confident Andre’s leadership of the team will result in greater successes in major domestic and European competitions.’

No other coaching appointments have been announced as of yet, but we should learn more about Andre’s back room set up over the next few days.

Chelsea TV will be broadcasting Villas-Boas’ first official Chelsea interview this evening.

Vital Chelsea would like to welcome Andre back to the club, and wish him well for the season ahead.
