Does anyone remember Andre Villas-Boas managing at Chelsea, he joined the club in the summer of 2011 and was in charge for 40 games in what turned out to be a Champions League winning season. His time in charge did not stay in the memory for very long. What I can recall is that he appeared to have been charged with removing John Terry from his position within the club. Something he failed at.

He left Chelsea in March 2012, fans favourite Roberto Di Matteo took over and the rest is history. Well, Villas-Boas is in the news again, yes, he`s still managing in football. Following spells at Tottenham and Zenit St. Petersburg, the Portuguese Jose Mourinho wannabe ended up in China managing Shanghai SIPG.

According to an article in The Daily Mail Villas-Boas has been hit with an eight match touchline ban. Following a penalty appeal that went against Shanghai, the clubs manager made a gesture directed at the referee, rubbing his fingers across his thumb. The implication being that the official may have been bribed.

The Chinese Football Association wasted no time in acting and released a statement saying,

`Shanghai SIPG head coach Villas-Boas has verbally abused the match official and aimed offensive gesture at him.His conduct has severely influenced society in a negative fashion.’

The ban finishes Villas-Boas` season on the touchline with the season being completed during November. An eight game ban trumps anything his mentor Mourinho has ever managed, so kudos there.
