Opinion: Let This Chelsea Midfielder Leave If That’s His Wish

|

Following the conclusion of the managerial reign of Maurizio Sarri, at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea agreeing on a compensation fee with his new club, Juventus, it would appear that somebody else is hankering after the same move.

Last summer, Jorginho joined Chelsea, for £50 million, from Napoli.

The 27-year-old Brazilian was seen, Sarri, as the essential cog in his ‘Sarriball’ system.

Unfortunately, Jorginho’s integration into the side came at the expense of N’Golo Kante with the French World Cup winner being forced to play out of his normal position further forward.

Jorginho, despite a bright start, didn’t quite live up to the expectation levels the Chelsea support had a fact that wasn’t helped by Sarri’s stubborn insistence that he was a regular starter.

Now, with Sarri gone, the Mirror, is touting the possibility of Jorginho also making the same journey.

Laying the foundations for such a move, our referenced source carries remarks attributed to Jorginho’s agent, Joao Santos, which read:

“Chelsea have a four-year contract with the lad. We’ll wait a few days to figure out whether there is any truth in this interest.

“His past at Napoli won’t be an issue, because Jorginho is a professional.”

Personally, I wouldn’t shed too many tears if Jorginho were to leave, based on his performances last season, I don’t think he’s suited to the Premier League, he doesn’t get forward to score enough goals and he lacks pace.

If Chelsea can recoup the majority of the transfer fee they paid Napoli, I’d suggest a deal be done as it would allow Kante to return to his natural position with Ross Barkley, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount in contention for the two remaining places in midfield.
