The England U21 side are currently involved in the European Championships.

They opened their campaign with a 0-0 draw against the current holders of the trophy, Sweden, on Friday night.

Amongst the squad, commanded by Aidy Boothroyd, are several Chelsea youngsters Tammy Abraham, Nathaniel Chalobah and Lewis Baker.

In the 0-0 draw with Sweden, Chalobah was given the man-of-the-match rating, however, it is another of the midfielders, Lewis Baker, who has given some insightful remarks to the media.

Baker, after two seasons on loan with the Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem, is looking for the coming season to be his breakthrough season.

The youngster, who has just one first-team appearance with Chelsea to his name, is quoted as having remarked about regular first-team action,

“I`ve got a thirst for it now. Definitely.

“Chelsea are a fantastic club with world-class players.

“They are able to spend money on almost any player. They`ve also got the Champions League.

“That means it is going to be harder to get in the team. All I can do is do my best. It might open someone`s eyes.”

With the last hone-grown player, JT, having left the squad, does Lewis Baker have a realistic chance of becoming a first-team regular?

Your thoughts would be most welcome.
