As Liverpool play hard ball with Barcelona over the transfer of Philippe Coutinho, the Catalan giants are turning their attention towards West London as they look to replace Neymar.

The name in the frame is not Eden Hazard either. With Liverpool ready to knock back a £138m offer for their Brazilian winger, Coutinho`s fellow countryman Willian is the new target.

That according to The Daily Star. The original source of the story was France Football.

Chelsea refused an approach from Manchester United for Willians` services earlier in the window. With Antonio Conte`s team down to the bare bones, it`s difficult to see how the Chelsea hierarchy could possibly sanction such a move.

But, as we all know the Chelsea transfer team of Marina Granovskaia, Michael Emanalo and ultimately Roman Abramovich work in extremely mysterious ways.

  • He is not our standard first 11 player, when everyone is fit, he is 29 years old and cfc could get a good fee from barca, if these rumours are any true. But with our problems in depth, quality squad players, we cannot allow to loose Willian as we did Matic. Our youngsters aren’t good enough yet to step in.

  • We cannot afford to sell any more players now unless we get a replacement in place. Although Willian might have slowed down a bit, but he still got it in him.

  • Perhaps cfc could go for Draxler, if Willian is to be sold. And I don’t understand why Chelsea doesn’t have a wide forward? Who was the last WF cfc had, was it Anelka? All the top teams have a WF in the team. Why didn’t we try for Martial, when utd signed Matic, he would be perfect. If Costa to Atletico doesn’t happen, he will be forced to try and find a new club, why not try Costa, Mitchy, Willian, Rahman, Kennedy, Musonda, Boga (youngsters with a buyback option, which is higher than the original deal)+ cash for Mbappe? Very crazy for sure, fantasy football actualy, lol.

  • if not for the depth issue, this yould’ve been a good deal. with mahrez, draxler looking available… If Hazard were fit, getting as much money from them and negotiating a good deal as are possible for the affor mentioned 7nd add to that list pastore…

  • Depending on the fee received, I’d sell him. My concern of switching to a 3-5-2 (If we do) has mainly been what we would do with Willian and Pedro, as for me, Fabregas would be second to Hazard in that system as a No.10, or even with Hazard as the second striker and Fabregas as No. 10. I know we want depth, but if we go down that route we’d have two players on good wages not fitting the system. I really rate Willian and I don’t know why we haven’t played him in CM (as part of a 3) as he works so hard, can get round players like a Modric does and pass effectively, plus he can dribble and advance us from deep, but, if we’re not going to do that, then I would sell him and I love the idea presented here of getting Draxler, and then of course, there’s Mahrez as well! We should always be looking to take advantage of these situations, and again, though I really rate Willian, he is replaceable. Alexis Sanchez? Haha, I wish!

  • The type of money Barca are throwing at Liverpool for Coutinho, even if they bid 40 % of that on Willian, we’ve to consider it seriously. But we need a replacement lined up. Wide right forwards/wingers are available in the market. All depends of course if Barca officially bid.

  • Well, I don’t want Willian sold, he’s by and far my favourite player at Chelsea. He’s just a terrific player, who’s undervalued by many on here. He should be at the height of his powers this season, as 29 is regarded as a peak for a footballer. He had a tough last season but the death of his mother played a huge part in that. His style, technique, touch, movement, dribbling skills are a joy to watch and I wouldn’t sell him for any money. Former captain Ray Wilkins, who’s not a bad judge of a player, has Willian in his all time Chelsea team. Why do you think Barcelona are interested?

  • Willian is a good player no doubt even though can be frustrating atimes especially when we go on the counter. If a deal in excess of £50m table for him why not cash in.

  • Willian is simply AWFUL, anything above 50million pounds and i will carry him on my back to the airport, his hardwork is a myth, he ruins most counters, and often times he clueless on what to do in the final third. Sell him and buy mahrez.

  • Oscarr, that’s harsh. I don’t think he’s an inside forward, but it’s where we play him. If we were in the 4-4-2 days of the premier league then he’d be an excellent out and out winger. I feel for him, because he has everything he needs to be great in a three man midfield, or as a player behind a striker, WITH CREATIVE SUPPORT BEHIND HIM……which of course we don’t in our system. That said, someone said £50m and I think they’re right, for that money, we could get better FOR WHAT WE NEED – not that Willian is rubbish. It’s insane, before this transfer window £30m would have been a good price, now it’s £50m!!!! Madness.

  • @Thebreeze can you back up your claim with stats and facts? The whoscored chat above shows that chelsea are better off without willian in the team, and if hes so good as you claim, why isnt he a starter for conte?

  • Willian in an all time chelsea team? Lmao, he wouldnt even make the bench, its not surprising tho coming from ray wilkins the acoholic who also said chalobah is a better player than bakayoko just because hes english. I think youre the one in need of a new sport to follow.
