Chelsea`s first game of the season has taken place at their Cobham training headquarters against nearest neighbours Fulham FC. You can see highlights of the game on Soccer-blogger.com Chelsea`s starting eleven for the low key game had a familiar ring to it.
In goal debutant Willy Cabellero, defenders Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz, and Gary Cahill, who captained the side. Last season`s wing backs Marcos Alonso and Victor Moses played alongside central midfield duo N`golo Kante and Cesc Fabregas. Up front Conte went with Willian and Pedro either side of Michy Batshuayi.
The second half began with a completely different line-up, made up mainly of youth players and loan returnees. Interestingly though, in Cahill`s absence David Luiz stayed on for the second period and took the captain`s armband. When Luiz was substituted Azpilicueta took on the captain`s roll.
The entertaining game finished with Chelsea running out 8-2 winners, with goals from Batshuayi (3), Willian (2), Remy(2), and Azpilicueta from the penalty spot. Fulham`s goals came via an Azpilicueta own goal and a penalty conceeded by Kenedy.
In their report of proceedings, The Daily Mail feature new signing Tiemoue Bakayoko in the stands watching his new teamates.
Chelsea head off to China on Tuesday and can look forward to facing old foes Arsenal in the Beijing Bird`s Nest Stadium the following Saturday.
