With John Terry no longer part of the squad at Stamford Bridge, newspaper speculation suggests there could be further changes taking place at the heart of the defence this summer.
Lurking in the pages of the Evening Standard, is the inference that Kurt Zouma could be heading out on loan.
The 22-year-old French centre-back recovered from the bad knee injury he suffered but failed to get much first-team time with the excellent trio of David Luiz, Gary Cahill and Cesar Azpilicueta in such fine form.
Matters could also be complicated further, if our source is correct, by the fact that Chelsea are looking to bring not one but two centre-backs to the club this summer as Antonio Conte plans an assault on both the Premier League and the Champions League next season.
The two possible acquisitions are players we`ve mentioned previously, namely the 30-year-old Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci and the 25-year-old Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk.
However, I`d be surprised if we managed to sign one of those named let alone two.
It also remains to be seen where Zouma will be loaned out to, will it be here or somewhere on the continent?
