Cloudy Waters?

With the future of Hernan Crespo currently the subject of much media speculation, several attempts have been made by the Argentine star to deny that he is on the move.

Speaking from the Argentinean camp, ahead of the clash with England this Saturday, Hernan spoke out against the suggestion that he will be on the move shortly. Indeed, the striker took great strides to assure Chelsea supporter?s that he intends to stay and fight for his Chelsea place.

With reference to not travelling to Seville, for the Real Betis clash, and Old Trafford for the Manchester United fixture, Hernan remarks,

?There was no disagreement at all. I had a problem with my calf and talked it through with the coach. Though there was a chance I could have played, Mourinho told me to stay at home and then get myself fully fit with Argentina?

Indeed, in the same press release Hernan attempts to pour further scorn on those who suggest that there is a rift between Mourinho and himself by suggesting that Mourinho is a great coach.

When pressed on his lack of appearances this season, Hernan, in the same press release, makes reference to the fact that he?s prepared to be patient and that playing for a top class side like Chelsea will always mean that you have to take your chance when you get it.

However, despite the well meaning words, it?s hard to establish if Hernan is being totally truthful. Hernan has always been well liked by the Chelsea faithful and when he does play he is inevitably treated to a rousing chorus of adulation.

Therefore, if Hernan is deadly serious about trying to establish himself at Chelsea we can?t help thinking that there are better ways of pledging your allegiance.

There has been no sign of Hernan himself opening up on television, albeit national or Chelsea TV, instead we?re treated to a press statement that could have come from any decent personal assistant.

Looking on the bright side though, the news that Hernan has apparently settled in Knightsbridge and has now become accustomed to life in London could bode well for the future. One of the biggest problems he experienced in his first spell in London was that of homesickness.

Unfortunately, with rumours persisting that Mourinho has asked Chelsea to scour Europe for a replacement striker only serve to cloud the already muddy waters. Perhaps we should leave the last words on this argument (for today) to Hernan himself:

?All I attempting is to be professional. I have a contract to stay and play and that?s what I?m doing. No, I have not had many chances. But when I have played, I have played well, done what was asked to do and scored goals. My only intention is to win a first team place?

I fear this is a saga that could run and run right through to, say, January!
