A piece of speculation, appearing in the media this morning, links Chelsea with a player who is currently on the books of Real Madrid.

But, whereas in the past this might have excited me, the news this morning leaves me feeling a little wary.

According to the European news source, calciomercato, Chelsea are interested in Madrid’s 24-year-old Croatian midfielder, Mateo Kovacic.

But, my fears are that any deal for a Real Madrid player could invoke that old chestnut, player-exchange, even more so with Real Madrid being linked with Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois.

However, there’s something interesting about Kovacic that is also being reported by our referenced source.

The suggestion is being bandied about that the player was wanted by our former boss, Jose Mourinho, at Manchester United.

But, seemingly, Kovacic has rejected any chance of moving to Old Trafford with our source implying the Croatian doesn’t like the style of football Mourinho has Manchester United playing.

With Maurizio Sarri intent on introducing a fast, attacking style of play to our club, Kovacic could be interested in a move to West London.

But, what are your views on the subject matter?

Is Kovacic the kind of signing that excites you?

Can you see Kovacic coming to Stamford Bridge as part of a player-exchange deal involving either Hazard or Courtois?

Please feel free to air your views in the comments facility beneath this article.

  • In as much as kova is a gud player bt general i wldnt like to see the club mak move fr him cos we hav players the coach shld consider n inproved them eg Ross B, RLC, Baker,Piazon etc

  • i can only advice chelsea if the player is perfect and good enough to suit chelsea way of played let them go for it but have at the back of mind no swop ddal, addition to my view is geting late for signing chelsea board is killing the fans of chelsea in nigeria we need sharp striker and deffender and aditional minfieder and keep the young talented boy odi he have the inspiration of hazard in him

  • I agreed with what Sir Cabal said,we have enough young midfielders with bright future, the board should allow Sarri to develop them cos I know he can than to be going for all this over hyped stars

  • for my own views if kova can do well in Chelsea pathan for this new couch let’s swap with courtois not Hazard
and for more Chelsea needs sharp striker with Morata
