Not really Chelsea related I know, so a bit off topic, but as we have the former Italian manager at our club, it`s worth a mention.

Italy, that great footballing nation, have failed to reach the finals of the World Cup for the first time since 1958. It`s a piece of football news that`s momentous to the point of shocking. The Azzurri have won the trophy 4 times.

The whole of Italy will, tonight, be in mourning. Gianluigi Buffon who was going to retire after the tournament, that takes place in Russia next summer, is set to retire early. It`s a sad end for such a legend of the game.

With the manager, Gian Piero Ventura likely to be heading for the exit, it won`t be long until Antonio Conte is once again linked to another job. There will be a media outcry for his return to Italy, guaranteed and will most likely come from those in this country.

Chelsea`s only participant in the game sat on the bench, Davide Zappacosta played no part in Italy`s demise. With Italy absent and Netherlands also failing to make it to Russia, surely England have to be a shoo-in for the title.

  • I feel really bad Italy won’t be in Russia, but please don’t mention the three lions. If you make the last 4, it’s a miracle.

  • Chile not going too. But who says countries like Sweden cannot send England parking? I only feel for Buffon. I really wanted him at the world cup.

  • Meanwhile, the super Eagles of Nigeria just gave Argentina the beating of their life. The Three lions should be afraid of them.
