Loyal Chelsea Servant Headed For Aston Villa Claim In A Move That Could Haunt Us

|

Lifting the Europa League trophy on Wednesday evening, alongside Cesar Azpilicueta, Gary Cahill brought the curtain down on a Chelsea career that has seen him win every domestic trophy on offer.

The 33-year-old has been a splendid servant to Chelsea Football Club and it was, in my opinion, a crying shame that with the game won, Maurizio Sarri didn’t send the central defender on for the last five or ten minutes thereby allowing the few Chelsea supporters who managed to get to Baku, the chance to give Cahill the farewell he deserved.

However, there is a chance that the Chelsea support will get to see Cahill in action next season with the defender, as quoted by Sky Sports on Friday having remarked:

“I want to go away on holiday for a few weeks and then I’ll come back and see what options there are for me.

“I’m confident that potentially I might stay in the league but I want to wait and see, take the decision over the summer.

“I’ve got a lot of time to think about things and hopefully make the right decision. I can’t wait to get back playing next season. I’m looking forward to that.”

Today, Saturday, it appears that Cahill’s desire to continue playing in the top-flight could be about to come true with the red-top publication, the Sun pointing out that newly-promoted Aston Villa are keen to add Cahill to their ranks as they seek to embark on what they hope will be a successful return to the top-flight.

If such a deal is completed, it would see Cahill reunited with John Terry, currently the assistant manager at Villa Park.

The trouble is, whereas John Terry openly admitted that he’d never contemplate playing against Chelsea, if the occasion arose, I can see Cahill producing a man-of-the-match performance and frustrating us next season, in either the home or away Premier League game.

How about you?
