Regular visitors to Vital Chelsea may recall how we reported on a clause in the season-long loan contract of the winger Christian Atsu, gave Newcastle a limited amount of time to decide whether they wanted to exercise the clause relating to making the move permanent.

Newcastle United, after being relegated last season, have made an instant return to the Premier League, being promoted from the Premier League as the Championship champions.

This season, whilst on loan at St James Park, Christian Atsu has made 35 appearances and has established himself as a valuable member of the squad.

To that effect it is being reported by the Sun, the Newcastle manager, Rafael Benitez, has decided to make the loan deal permanent.

If our source is correct, the Ghanaian international will join Newcastle with Chelsea receiving a transfer fee of £6.2 million.

Chelsea signed the player from Porto four years ago but the 25-year-old winger failed to make a single first-team appearance for the club.
