Russian Midfielder Set To Be Chelsea’s First Summer Signing

|

With Chelsea’s off-season bumbling along in a style that has become all too familiar recently, the signs are beginning to look a little more promising. It’s being mooted in several sources that there could be some new incoming players very soon.

Obviously, we’ve heard it all before. If Roman Abramovich were directing a film franchise we’d be on ‘Another 48 Hours’ part 24 by now. Maurizio Sarri has been within two days of becoming Chelsea manager since the end of last season and the rumours of player movement have been relentless.

According to Matt Law in the Telegraph, Aleksandr Golovin, currently with the Russian World Cup squad, is being mooted as the clubs first signing of the summer transfer window. It’s hoped the deal will be done up as soon as he’s finished his duties with the National side.

The CSKA Moscow playmaker is being targeted by the club for his creativity. Those in charge of transfer dealings, whoever they are, compare the 22-year-old to Real Madrid’s Luka Modric.

As Chelsea look to off-load Danny Drinkwater, the Blues hierarchy hope to recoup Golovin’s £27m fee with the sale of the ex-Leicester City player barely given a chance at Stamford Bridge.

With the Chelsea players not on World Cup duty due back at pre-season training on July 9th the atmosphere, they encounter on their return could well be a very strange one. With bated breath, we wait to see who will be running those sessions.

Are you the Vital Chelsea fraternity any the wiser as to who might be in charge come a week Monday when pre-season starts?
