This Chelsea Defender Is Now Showing Just How Good He Can Be

|

Although it is early days, as far as such awards go, am I alone in thinking that Kurt Zouma could be in the running for the Chelsea Player of the Year this season?

It may be an outrageous claim considering we are less than halfway through the season but, in my opinion, the Frenchman has improved immeasurably recently.

Zouma has gone from looking like a defender who you expected to make a costly mistake to someone who now looks assured at the heart of the Chelsea defence.

Of course, much of this is down to playing alongside Thiago Silva with the experienced Brazilian helping to keep Zouma focussed and in the right position.

But a bonus to Zouma’s play is the number of goals he has scored, in the Premier League, this season.

In 10 appearances, the likeable centre-back has already scored 4 goals which is as many as he had scored in 141 previous Premier League appearances before the 2020 / 2021 season started.

I cannot help thinking Kurt, after so many loan spells away from Stamford Bridge, has come of age.
