Could Chelsea Be About To Spring A Huge Surprise!

Chelsea could be about to spring a huge surprise and leave some supporters dumfounded!

It’s an interesting question and one that is based around a report that has appeared in The Telegraph this morning.

With a two-window transfer ban in operation, discussions about who will lead the line next season have been prevalent amongst the Chelsea support.

One option that we’ve discussed youngster-determined-to-show-he-can-make-the-grade-at-chelsea-this-season relates to giving Tammy Abraham the chance to prove that he has what it takes to score prolifically with a Premier League club, a trait he’s displayed in the Championship whilst on loan at Bristol City and Aston Villa.

But, according to our referenced source, the plot could be about to take a dramatic twist.

It appears that Chelsea are trying to force Atletico Madrid into a corner.

Now you may recall that, back in January, Chelsea loaned Alvaro Morata to the La Liga side in a deal that should have seen the Spanish striker remain in Madrid until the end of the 2019 / 2020 season.

But, our quoted source is championing the inference that the deal had a clause in it whereby Chelsea can recall the striker early unless Atletico Madrid opts to purchase the 26-year-old striker.

If that is the case, then the only way Atletico can hang onto the striker for next season is to cough up a cool £50 million for Morata’s transfer fee.

However, we’re not sure how Morata returning to Stamford Bridge would go down with the Chelsea support.

Although the Spaniard started his Chelsea career in style, over the last twelve months of his stay some might say he resembled a fish out of water.

But was that Morata’s fault or was he the victim of a rotation policy that saw him miss games or a result of the style of football Chelsea were playing under Maurizio Sarri not suiting his game?

Personally, I’m torn between wanting Morata back to see what he can do under the new boss and pushing Atletico for that £50 million fee.

But, with the Hazard money in the bank and not being able to spend it until this time next year, would adding another £50 million to the treasure chest be a more viable option than having another player in the squad?
