This Keeper Is A Far Better Option To Solve Chelsea’s Woes

|

If the recently completed 2019/2020 season showed us anything it was that Chelsea need to, this summer, recruit a goalkeeper.

Despite paying a world record fee for Kepa Arrizabalaga, the Spaniard does not inspire anyone with confidence and his deputy, Willy Caballero, is, to put it politely, getting a little long in the tooth.

Already this summer, there has been speculation that Chelsea could, for a second time in recent years, be looking to break the world record fee for a goalkeeper with Jan Oblak being the rumoured target – atletico-madrid-president-responds-jan-oblak-chelsea-transfer-speculation.

However, with the club also looking to improve what can, at best, be described as a leaky defence, would paying so much for a goalkeeper be questionable.

This weekend, The Daily Star championed the suggestion that Chelsea have now identified the Burnley keeper, Nick Pope, as the man they want.

Pope, who has performed admirably for Burnley this season, is younger than Oblak and wouldn’t cost anywhere near the £109 million quoted for Oblak.

Indeed, any the difference in cost between the two could then be spent on a top-notch centre-back, something we need.

It makes sense to me, how about you?
